Mayo Clinic researchers have developed a genetic test that predicts individual response to weight loss drugs by measuring "calories to satiation"—the food quantity needed to feel full. People with lower genetic scores lost more weight on liraglutide, a GLP-1 agonist, whereas individuals with higher scores responded better to phentermine-topiramate, an appetite suppressant combination. This new tool could tailor obesity treatments to genetic profiles, enhancing effectiveness and minimizing trial-and-error medication use.
Policy Update: Reduced Added Sugar in Child and Adult Care Programs
Effective October 1, 2025, the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) will enforce new standards limiting added sugars in breakfast cereals and yogurts served in care settings.
